Kosher & filtering

What is a kosher phone?

A kosher phone is a mobile phone with the open internet, app store and unfiltered media removed, so it can be used for calls, messages and approved tools only. CHIP is a modern take: a tactile T9 keypad with a sharp touchscreen, running the Vadai operating system with every app individually vetted.

Is CHIP TAG approved?

CHIP is checked by TAG. TAG only uses the word "approved" for phones with no apps that use the internet. Because CHIP includes apps such as Waze, it is registered as "checked by TAG" rather than "approved by TAG".

Can CHIP get on the internet?

No. There is no open web browser and no app store.

Can I add more apps?

No. CHIP runs the Vadai operating system: every app is individually vetted, and nothing outside the approved list can be added.

Does CHIP have WhatsApp?

No. CHIP does not have WhatsApp.

Are there parental controls?

Yes. Child Device Manager is built in, with GPS tracking, usage limits and remote shutdown.

Apps & features

Which apps come on CHIP?

Every CHIP comes with Phone, Messages, Siddur, Zmanim, Camera, Gallery, Maps, Waze, Android Auto, Calendar, Clock, Calculator, Music Player, PDF Viewer, Chip Cloud, Voice Dictation, Prefixer, Settings, Child Device Manager, Weather, Minyanim, Notes, Reminders, Phone directory, Caller ID search and Boarding passes. Tap to pay is coming very soon, along with remote eSIM provisioning. See the full tech specs.

Does CHIP have Waze?

Yes. Waze and Google Maps come on every CHIP, and it supports Android Auto in the car.

Is CHIP waterproof?

CHIP is IPX5 water resistant: rain, spills, splashes and a rinse under the tap are fine, but it is not built for swimming or being submerged.

Does CHIP have an SD card slot?

Yes. It takes a microSD card up to 512GB, on top of 64GB of built-in storage.

What's in the box?

The phone, a wall plug, a protective case, a USB-C data cable, a USB-C to 3.5mm earphone cable, a SIM pin and a user manual. Earphones are not included.

Networks & SIM

Does CHIP work on UK networks?

Yes. CHIP is a 4G LTE phone built for the UK, US and Israel. Check the network bands.

How many SIM cards does CHIP take?

Two physical SIM cards plus an eSIM, so you can add a plan without visiting a shop.

Price, ordering & delivery

£149.99 as a preorder-only offer (regular price £199.99), including 20% VAT and standard delivery. One payment, with no contract and no airtime tie-in. Import taxes or customs duties outside the UK are not included.

When do preorders end?

Preorders end on Friday 30 October, at midnight UK time.

When will my CHIP arrive?

Is this discounted preorder a ribbis problem?
